Leydig cells produce androgens which are essential for male sex differentiation and reproductive functions. Steroidogenesis, as well expression of several genes in cells, stimulated by LH/cAMP repressed AMP/AMPK. One those is Plau, codes the urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA), a secreted serine protease. The role uPA regulation Plau remain unknown. Using siRNA-mediated knockdown, was required maximal cAMP-induced STAR steroid hormone production MA-10 cells.
